Our Story

The Legend

One of our founders is the descendent of Chief PuMuen of the Lahu hill tribes in the northern region of Thailand also known as the Golden Triangle. He and his father Chaikor, originally from the Chinese army, were called upon by His Majesty King Bhumibol of Thailand to replace this existing farming and trading of opium with coffee and tea. As a project of the Royal Project Foundation, its primary goal is to improve the quality of life of hill tribes and to preserve the land.

Based on this royal initiative, as celebrated and imprinted in the Thai 100 baht note, tea and coffee plants were supplied to the locals in the mountains of Doi Pu Muen, where current coffee and tea plantations were born.

Royal Project Foundation

The project began in 1969, when King Bhumibol Adulyadej visited an opium-growing hill tribe village in Doi Pui. During his visit, the king learned that a local peach could provide income for the hill tribe people. He found that the Doi Put Development Centre, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, was testing and developing a suitable type of peach for the environment. It could provide higher incomes to the local people than opium-growing. He instructed the Crown Property Bureau to give 200,000 baht to the project.

How It's Made

Step 1

Cultivation

Hand-selected by tea and coffee farmers, who ensure consistent quality and a special taste. They can recognize the tender tea leaves and perfectly ripe cherries by the new shoots at the tips of the pruned branches and the cherries' bright burgundy color and sweet smell.

Step 2

Selection

Tea leaves and coffee cherries are frequently turned and sorted to remove damaged leaves and cherries while drying.

Step 3

Processing

100% natural, no artificial flavoring or material is added in any step of the processing method.
