Our partner John, descendent of Chief PuMuen of the Lahu hill tribes in the northern region of Thailand also known as the Golden Triangle, and his father Chaikor, originally from the Chinese army, were called upon by His Majesty King Bhumibol of Thailand to replace the existing farming and tra- ding of opium with coffee and tea.
Based on this royal initiative, as celebrated and imprinted in the Thai 100 baht note, tea and coffee plants were supplied to the locals in the mountains of Doi Pu Muen, where current coffee and tea plantations were born.
Community - Social contribution
A percentage of our coffee and tea sales will be donated to the local Lahu hill tribe community to help improve their livelihood and children’s education.
Coffee
Pumuen organic coffee is grown in the northern mountains of Thailand at an altitiude of 1,250 meters above sea level. The cool tropical climate found in the high altitude environment enables the slow growing of the Arabica coffee bean, leading to a higher concentration of aroma and richer flavour.
Tea
Pumuen organic tea is also grown in the northern mountains of Thailand at an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level. The high altitude’s cool tropical weather environment often has thick mists that filter the sun rays and moisten the tea leaves so they are usually more tender. The slow growing cycle leads to a higher concentration of aroma and maintains a natural sweetness with unique complexity and depth.
